Seneca

Seneca is a Herreshoff designed P Class Bermudan Sloop originally built in 1907.

In 2005, a syndicate headed by Lee Sweet of Chester, Nova Scotia brought Seneca to Tern’s Chester Basin shop to start an extensive refit after many years of deterioration. Tern Boatworks refastened the keel, completely rebuilt the deck, we replaced garboard planks, strakes, her stem and other areas weakened by her age and the years of neglect. She was repainted, refit with new deck hardware, rigged and launched in time for her 100th birthday in August 2007.

A major accomplishment for Tern and the syndicate which will see a beautiful, classic sailboat hopefully be around for another century. As one of Tern’s earliest wooden boat projects, Seneca paved the way for our reputation for quality work on both restorations and new builds of wooden boats. Tern is now one of the last remaining wooden boat yards still practicing this traditional craft in Nova Scotia.
