Dorothy Louise
Dorothy Louise is a traditional two mast Gaff rigged Schooner, this boat was the last one designed and built by David Stevens of Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. It was completed by Jim Rhodenizer a long time friend and employee of David Stevens and launched in 1994, five years after Steven’s death.
The Dorothy Louise is caravel planked of local pine and copper riveted to steamed oak ribs, it has oak backbone timbers and poured lead keel, and carries three lower and two topsails.
One of the first boats to be worked on at our LaHave location, Dorothy Louise is undergoing extensive work and a structural rebuild. Work includes a rebuild of the cabin where we have raised the cabin height. We are reframing the stern posts and horn timbers and replacing all rotted floor timbers and frames as well as scarfing new planks. Dorothy Louise will have a new deck, a complete interior rebuild and a full systems upgrade including a new 50hp Yamaha engine and all new re-wired electrical.
